Calculate and Reduce your Carbon Footprint – Go Green

Students in JPS learn about the world and the people in it from an early age. By exploring the world, they become more socially, culturally, economically and environmentally aware, which better prepares them to adopt a global perspective and make a difference in the global community.

The JPS zero footprint Youth Calculator emphasizes everyday human activities which contribute to the production of carbon dioxide (CO2) gasses that play a part in global warming, and enables students to calculate the amount of CO2 their household produces.

The Calculator includes a series of simple questions covering; transportation, what you eat, home and school, what you use, and what you throw away categories and recommends straightforward and practical tips on how to reduce your household’s carbon footprint.

By following the suggested tips, and setting and following the specific goals, the JPS community will help in the reduction of CO2, therefore collaborating towards global environmental goals.

zero footprint Youth Calculator features

JPS zero footprint Youth Calculator

The upper right corner of the zero footprint Youth Calculator displays the total amount of CO2 that JPS students have already pledged to reduce by changing their lifestyles.

The Calculator also offers a comparison functionality whereby students can evaluate their carbon footprint and goals against the JPS average, or against students of different genders and age.

Students will be able to see how many Earths it would take to maintain the level of CO2 that their household is producing from their lifestyle if everyone produced the same amount as they do.

At any time, students can click on the graph icon and calculate their own carbon footprint; students do not have to complete all the questions and can log out and return to answer remaining questions at any time.

Please answer the JPS zero footprint Youth Calculator questions, and see how you can help the environment today and make a significant difference with contributions to a greener world for tomorrow.

The JPS community is helping to create a greener milieu today by offering recycling facilities to all students, parents and staff. We recycle paper, plastic, aluminum cans, batteries, mobile phones and now textiles and paired shoes.

JPS AWARDS 2009 – FIRST RUNNERS UP IN THE PLASTICS COLLECTION COMPAIN

JPS has been awarded Emirates Environmental Group’ First Runners Up in the Plastics Collection Campaign! This was judged on the amount of plastic we had in our recycling bins in our bus parking area. We’ve decided that next academic year 2010-2011 we want to be ‘First’ in the plastic, tin, paper and batteries campaigns – with school recycling and recycling from home this will be an easy target to reach!
