Dear Parents,
As Director of GEMS Music Academy I am delighted to be able to present to you the comprehensive range of musical opportunities available to your son or daughter from January 2010. The music team looks forward to working with you, to nurture the musical potential within your child. We currently have over 500 students involved in the scheme across our GEMS network of schools and are looking forward to expanding our provision. Our experienced, highly skilled peripatetic music teaching team works across all our schools, offering tuition on wide range of orchestral, keyboard and percussion instruments.
Each of our GEMS schools has excellent provision for music education and the GEMS Music Academy staff are able to enhance this provision through individual instrument lessons, and GMA Youth ensembles.
However, music making is not just about the individual, but about coming together in groups to create fantastic sounds and to communicate through the amazing power of music. Please encourage your children to join one of the ensembles listed below or one from the extensive range offered at school.
Our hope is that the various programmes of the Gems Music Academy will produce musically literate, confident young people, and will, as an added bonus, add value to their academic attainment across the curriculum. You may be interested to access the article on the BBC web site as indicated below.

Although still in its early stages of development we believe that the Music Academy will place GEMS Education at the cutting edge of musical provision in the UAE, leading the way for international schools across the world. Above all we know that all young people and teachers engaged in our activities will have a great time!

Individual Instrumental Lessons
• Available on the full range of orchestral instruments, piano, guitar and voice
• 20 x 30minute lessons for Term 3

GEMS Youth Jazz Orchestra
• Available by audition or teacher nomination, to students who are reasonably experienced on their instruments.
• 90 minute sessions, no charge.
• Tuesdays, 18.00-19.30pm at Jumeirah College

GEMS Youth Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass)
• Available to students who are reasonably experienced on their instruments via teacher nomination

Music Theory Classes
• Available to all students
• Pay as you go, Dhs 50 per 1 hour group session

Star! course 3 (To be confirmed)
Following the first two highly successful Star! holiday courses, I am delighted to announce the third, based on Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story, once again taught by teachers from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), London, and Echo (European Chamber Opera) Education.

Jumeirah Community Choir
For those older ‘students’ (parents, colleagues and friends) among us there is the Jumeirah Community Choir which meets on a Wednesday evening at Jumeirah College and is open to anyone (even if you think you can’t sing!)
• Rehearsals every Wednesday, at Jumeirah College from 7-9pm
• Free
