Safeguarding
Safeguarding our students is at the heart of our school and includes:
- Ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care.
- Preventing harm to children’s health and development.
- Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment.
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
Child protection is a priority for the UAE and a Child’s Right Law was implemented in June 2016. Child protection in the UAE includes: physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, repeated maltreatment, grooming and sexual exploitation, human trafficking and exploitation by groups that teach fanaticism or hatred.
Under UAE governmental guidance, schools must make arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Parents/carers should know that the law requires all school staff to pass on information, which gives rise to a concern about a child’s welfare, including risk from neglect, physical, emotional or sexual abuse. Staff will seek, in general, to discuss any concerns with the parent/carer and discuss the need to make a referral to UAE agencies if that is considered necessary, however, this discussion will only take place where such discussions will not place the child at increased risk of significant harm or cause undue delay.
The school will seek advice from UAE agencies when they have reasonable cause to suspect a child may be suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. Occasionally, concerns are passed on which are later found to be unproven. Parents/carers will appreciate that the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) carries out their responsibilities in accordance with the law and acts in the best interests of all children.
